What is self care: 5 practices to elevate your inner peace

Have you ever noticed that, whenever you invest time and energy into becoming the best version of yourself, your whole world lights up?

Sometimes it is easy to forget about taking care of ourselves amidst all the hustle and bustle or our daily routines. However, with these quick and easy tips, you can start undestanding what is self care and prioritizing your well-being today without sacrificing much time or effort.

Ready to dive in and discover what is self care and how some small changes can lead to significant results in your overall mental health and happiness? Let’s dive right in!

What is self care?

Self care is such an important factor for our overall health, inner peace and well-being. When we take care of ourselves, we are able to show up in the world as our best selves.

Simple self-care practices can make a big difference in how we feel both physically and emotionally.

That’s why I always say that taking the time to be mindful, rest when your body asks to and nourish your body with healthy food will definitely help you stay balanced, energized and ready to conquer the world!

My 5 favourite self care practices to to level up my life

Some of the most basic practices that helped me move the needle during my self love journey are things that I was somehow already doing, but either with the wrong attitude or not putting much effort into them.

It’s all about trial and error, to find the perfect balance on what works best for you. 

1. Eating healthy and yummy foods

Do you eat mindfully? Mindful eating means being present and aware of what you’re eating, savoring the flavors and textures, and paying attention to how your body feels. It’s about enjoying the experience of eating, rather than just consuming food for fuel. Plus, it can be a great way to slow down and appreciate the good things in life!

Nourishing my body with healthy foods like smoothies or grains, helped me be a conscious eater during my meals. By implementing this practice, you will discover that if you love your body, it will love you back.

2. Mindful movement

Nothing new here, we all know that exercise is good for us, but sometimes it can be hard to find the motivation to get moving. When you finally commit to it though, it is such an amazing energy booster for your body!

That’s why it’s important to find an activity that you enjoy and make it part of your routine. It doesn’t have to be something crazy – even a simple walk around the block can make a difference. And there are plenty of other benefits of exercise beyond the physical: it can help to boost your mood, improve your sleep, and increase your energy levels.

So if you’re looking for ways to take care of yourself, start by adding some exercise into your day. It will do wonders for your mind and body!

My personal favourite are dance classes, yoga and walking in one of the stunning parks across Shanghai. Whatever I choose, I commit to moving at least 3 times per week.

3. Do things that make me happy

I LOVE to sleep in. It’s one of my guilty pleasures and I’m not ashamed to say it! After all, sleep is crucial for our mental and physical health. I try to listen to my body and go with the flow whenever I can. Netflix and chill with my own company? Sign. me. up!

Try to dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to doing something that makes you happy. This could be reading, taking a walk, listening to music, or anything else that brings you joy. Is a small act of kindness toward yourself that will benefit you so much on the long run!

4. Journaling and meditating

I usually incorporate these two self care practices into my daily (or at least weekly) routine: taking time to honor the present moment with a grounding meditation or spending time reflecting on what’s good in my life if a caress for my soul.

One of my favourite rituals is definitely gratitude journaling: a practice that helped me become more mindful of the positive things in my life. 

Gratitude journaling has been scientifically linked to improved physical and mental health, increased happiness, and better relationships.

5. Connecting with Nature

Ever heard about the term Earthing? Studies have shown that walking barefoot on the ground helps you get rid of all the negative charge from Earth through your feet into the body. How crazy is that? I try to include this self care into my routine at least once a week. 

This practice will make you feel so much better, both mentally and physically. Not only you get to enjoy the beautiful outdoors, but it also helps you to reconnect with the planet and your whole body. Plus, it’s a great way to de-stress and relax after a long day.

It’s a win-win situation! So why not give it a try? I promise you will be amazed by the positive effects it will have on your overall well-being.

Reach the ultimate inner peace

Taking care of yourself should always be a priority and these simple self-care practices are an excellent way to get you started. From taking time for yourself to developing healthy habits, there are plenty of ways to ensure you’re living your happiest and healthiest life.
