If only few years ago someone told me that I would leave the US and travel all the way to China by myself, I would have laughed out loud.
Solo travel has been so crucial to my self love journey, as I am a firm believer of it being a unique experience that anyone should try at least once in a lifetime.
The countless benefits it will bring range from a boost in self confidence, to a higher level of self awareness and much much more.

Why solo travel is best jump out of your comfort zone
It can be daunting at first, but the rewards of being able to explore a new place with complete freedom are immense. Traveling solo is know to bring so many benefits, from mental health and well-being, to self-confidence and problem solving.
Whether you’re exploring a new city or taking a road trip, solo travel is a great way to challenge yourself, rise the bar of your comfort and give you that extra little push in confidence (and that is never enough, am I right?!).
I have listed some of the benefits that solo travel brought me and some tips for my girls that are still doubting whether to make a step toward it.
Benefits of solo travel on your mental health
One of the main benefits solo travel had on me, was increased self-awareness.
Being alone in an unfamiliar environment can help bring clarity to your thoughts and feelings. It can give you an opportunity to reflect on your life and make any necessary changes. It can also be beneficial to process any emotions that you’ve been avoiding.
When you are out of your comfort zone and exploring a new place, you become more aware of yourself and your surroundings. This awareness can help you gain insight into your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Plus, when you travel alone, you have the opportunity to challenge yourself, push boundaries, and build confidence.
Benefits of solo travel on your overall wellbeing
Another benefit of solo travel is increased self-confidence: when you’re alone, you’re forced to rely on yourself to make decisions and navigate the environment. This will definitely help you to become more independent and confident in yourself.
By getting out of your comfort zone and experiencing new places and cultures, your problem-solving skills and self esteem will skyrocket!

Whether you have it all planned out, or going for an adventure, my advice is to do some research and be aware of the local customs and cultures.
When I moved to China to work as a school English teacher, I planned every single detail, but despite that, as the plane landed, I realized I had so much more to learn that I wish someone would have told me.
Spoiler alert: if you are planning to do the same, I compiled hundreds of tips and years of experience into a digital guide that covers all you need to know for your big move to Shanghai.
Solo travel often comes with unexpected surprises, but if you are brave enough to embrace the unexpected, you will collect new experiences and opportunities of a lifetime.
Remember to make connections with locals and other travelers. This can be a great way to learn more about the culture and gain insight about the places you are visiting!
As an expat, I am so lucky to have made many friends from different nationalities and backgrounds. However, the friendships that have been the most meaningful were made during my solo travels.
Through my adventures, I had the opportunity to meet people who shared my values and a similar spirit of adventure. Most of them were also on a journey of self-discovery, seeking answers to life’s big questions and looking to find themselves. The bonds we formed during those travels were strong and continue to be an important part of my life.

Take a leap of faith!
Solo travel not only allowed me to explore the world, but also helped me create meaningful friendships that enriched my life in countless ways.
Overall, solo travel offers many benefits that can have a positive impact on so many areas of your life and character.
So, don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone, take the leap into a life changing adventure, because as they say… “some journeys can only be traveled alone”.
